Meet Fallon: From Customer Service to General Manager in Construction

Writer: EcosafeEcosafe

We're seeing a shift towards greater inclusivity in construction. More women are stepping into leadership roles than ever before.

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), 15.8% of the construction workforce was female between April and June 2023, a steady rise from 12.6% before the pandemic.

One of those women is Fallon, General Manager at Ecosafe. She did not plan on a career in construction, but four years later, she is leading a growing team, managing contracts, and helping construct the future of the business.

We caught up with Fallon to talk about how she got here. What it is genuinely like working in construction, and why she would not have it any other way.

“I never saw myself in construction, but I love it.”

What made you choose a career in construction?

“I didn’t really! My background is in customer service, sales, and operations management, so construction wasn’t even on my radar. But when Ecosafe offered me the chance to join as Office Manager, it felt like a good opportunity to do something different.

My first big job was helping mobilise two major contracts, which was a massive learning curve. But I like a challenge, and now, nearly four years later, I’m General Manager, helping run the business as we keep growing.

It simply confirms you don’t have to follow a classic route to find your place in construction.”

“Everyday is different”

What does your day-to-day job involve?

“Everything and anything! My role is all about keeping things running smoothly, whether that’s:

  • Managing contracts across different services, including gas, fire safety, cleaning and plastering.

  • Overseeing HR, recruitment, and staff training.

  • Ensuring compliance with industry regulations (ISO, SafeContractor, CHAS, etc.).

  • Supporting the directors with strategy and business development.

  • Addressing challenges, which is a full-time job in itself!

It’s quick-moving, unpredictable, and full-on, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

“Being a woman in construction? I just get on with it.”

How have you found being a woman in the construction industry?

“I don’t overthink it. I just get on with the job. I’ve been lucky to work at Ecosafe, where it’s about your skills, not your gender.

That said, the number of women remains low, mainly on-site. Things are improving, but there’s still a way to go. More women must be encouraged into construction, not just in leadership and office roles, but in trade and site-based jobs too.’

“The best part? My colleagues.”

What do you enjoy most about your job?

“Definitely my colleagues.

Ecosafe is family-run, and there’s a real sense of trust and support - we have the space to learn, grow and take on new challenges.

And no matter how stressful things get (and trust me, some days are chaos), we have each other’s backs. It makes all the difference.”

“If you’re thinking about a career in construction, don't hestitate.”

What advice would you give to other women considering construction?

“Don’t overthink it, just go for it.

Construction isn’t just floor laying and site work. It’s problem-solving, leadership, organisation, and planning - skills you might already have from other industries.

If you want a career where you’re constantly learning, growing, and making a real impact, construction might be the role for you.”

Final Thoughts

Fallon’s story proves you do not need a construction background to succeed in the industry. You need the right mindset, adaptability, and a willingness to learn.

Women are making huge impacts in construction, and the industry is opening up more opportunities than ever before. If Fallon’s journey has inspired you, maybe it is time to see where a career in construction could take you.
